December ended the Bauhaus centenary year, which has seen a great renewal of interest and countless exhibits and articles about the school’s history and continued impact. We have been fortunate to participate by assisting scholars and students by providing access to buildings and materials over the course of the year.

CCMHT Founder, Peter McMahon, will be doing a Lecture at Skinner Auction House this Wednesday. For info on this, our 2019 Artist/ScholarResidency and recent visitors, see details below.
Unfortunately Cape Cod Modern, the book that tells the back-story of the outer Cape’s modernist era, sold out of print some time this fall. The good news is that the publisher will be re-printing for a forth time (for a total of 15,000 in print) and copies will be available again in May. Signed copies are still available on our site.
In other news, Victoria Kennedy will be stepping down as our Administrator but will stay on as a board member and current board chair Malachi Connolly will be stepping down from the board. Many thanks to both of them for being pivotal players for so many years. Current residency curator, Jenny Monick, will be joining the board, and architect/educator, Anthony Lee, will be joining as our new board chair. Welcome to them and to Melissa Yeaw, our new Administrator.
The Kohlberg House
The Kohlberg House restoration was successfully completed in late June, and has been enjoyed by the hundreds who attended our open house in July, our Sunday tours and by our weekly renters. Due to cost overruns in the difficult construction process however we still have 100k in project debt that we hope to pay off by Oct 2020.

2019 Artist/Scholar Residencies
Our artist/scholars this October were: artist Suzanne McClelland, art curator and writer Juana Berrio and play-write Dare Clubb. They were selected by our 2019 curator artist Jenny Monick who was also in residency. Though everyone was hard at work on various projects, we found time to hike to see the Province Lands Dune Shacks and tour modern houses. Keith Vincent and partner Anthony Lee, incoming CCMHT board chair hosted a dinner attended by board member Ira Zeiring, friend of the Trust Annabelle Daoust, Icelandic painter Hulda Stefánsdóttir and drummer Jose Barrio. Stay tuned for the launch of our new Digital Guestbookwhich will provide a peek into what CCMHT residents were doing while here. This is an idea we have been working on with Jenny Monick, partly inspired by the guestbook entries left by our renters and partly by the guestbook the Gropius family kept, going back to the Wiemar Bauhaus. http://gropius.house/location/guest-book/

What About Vernacular?
We had a 10 day visit from young French architects doing an ambitious three month tour on the Eastern US to study and document vernacular (and modern) buildings. We’ll be following their progress. See description below in their own words.
“We are three architects graduated from the School of Bordeaux, France, aged 28 and 29, winners of the Delano-Aldrich fellowship founded by the AIA, the American Institute of Architects. WHAT ABOUT VERNACULAR? is a three-month travel project to the United States to study vernacular architecture and discover the American territory. Our journey focuses on ethical and sustainable architectures, using natural materials and local building techniques. Our project is to travel from east to west, with this theme as a guideline. The restitution we will make of this trip will take the form of an exhibition and conferences organized by various architecture centers and museum in the United States and France, as well a website dedicated to sustainable constructions and a book.” Justine Lajus-Pueyo, Margot Rieublanc and Alexia Menec
