Curator’s statement

For the Fall 2019 residency, I invited 3 artists, all friends of mine, too, whom I knew would deeply understand the mission of the Trust and the gift of the houses.
And who could be self-sufficient and love, not least of all, the beauty of time spent off season on a spit of Atlantic sand, in solitude, in a loose group, with shortened days and an increasing chill bracketing each one. I also invited Suzanne, Dare, and Juana because they come from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds, (visual artist, playwright / director, and writer / curator) and currently live in a disperse
U.S. geography - New York City, Iowa, and San Francisco. Although they did not know each other before joining me in Wellfleet, as I suspected we made a good group
and cohered well, meeting up for meals and adventures, while having time to ourselves. My hope was, and it seemed to have worked out, that we would all use the time as an open-ended exploratory residency, more than feeling it need be specifically productive. They, all three, understood the technology of the houses, their experiment, engineering, and simplicity. It was a joy for me to share my love of this place with these exceptional people.”
