Open House at the Weidlinger House Saturday, Oct. 7th 11- 4pm
Free and open to the public
The Cape Cod Modern House Trust invites you to visit the restored Weidlinger House, built in 1953 by ground breaking structural engineer, Paul Weidlinger.
Sitting above Higgins Pond in the unspoiled National Seashore, this radical structure illustrates Paul Weidlinger’s interest in post and beam structures, gridded plans disrupted by diagonals and the idea of a house as a naturalist’s observation post. After the house was leased to the Trust by the National Park Service, it was fully restored and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The restoration was a collaboration between the Trust, the Cape Cod National Seashore, and the voters of Wellfleet who supported the project through Community Preservation Act funding.
The house also serves as a platform for the Trust’s artist/scholar residencies every spring and fall.
This year we are hosting an art/science collaboration residency. Artists will pair with Park staff scientists doing field research.
